Sustainability (ESG) for Support Functions

You will acquire a more extensive understanding of the issue of sustainability and ESG by becoming acquainted with the major challenges of the relevant support functions of finance, controlling, marketing, communication and human resources and their interactions. Furthermore, the special nature of SMEs will be addressed here.

Contents

  • Understanding the cross-functional challenges of the relevant corporate functions such as finance, controlling, marketing, communication and human resources and their cooperation for the shared benefit of them all and for a better ESG positioning of the company
  • Increasing sensitisation to the issue at all levels and from the perspective of certain functions, and attaining a confident handling of the issue both internally and externally with various stakeholders
  • Learning the special demands made on these support functions with regard to dealing with sustainability issues and ESG requirements
  • Understanding the roles of finance, controlling, marketing, communication and HR, in particular, and being able to connect them with a company’s culture, ethics and incentive system
  • Understanding the peculiarities of medium-sized companies and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Creating an understanding of the fact that the so-called control functions, including risk management, compliance, legal, and internal audits, are further support functions that are important for the company and must be involved for a comprehensive assessment of the company’s sustainability and ESG questions
  • Knowing why corporate management and management processes are important when it comes to dealing with ESG risks
  • Knowing and being able to identify ESG risks for companies and knowing how this fits into an existing risk management process
  • Understanding the significance of ESG reporting with a special focus on the support functions addressed in this module
  • Generally stimulating an understanding of what an ecological and social environment means and what effects climate change has on a company

Fees

CHF 4,600

The course costs include training materials, break refreshments and lunch. Travel, accommodation and other catering costs are to be covered by the participants.

Target Groups

This programme is aimed at

  • executives in senior positions and in middle management, particularly in the “second or third lines of defence”, in this case finance, controlling, marketing, communication and human resources, in particular;
  • people who bear responsibility in medium-sized companies and SMEs;
  • people who bear responsibility or are interested in this field and directly or indirectly work with the control functions addressed in this module but also with the control functions dealt with in the parallel module (risk management, compliance, legal, and internal audits) and also want to learn more about implementability in medium-sized companies or SMEs;
  • people who are interested in systematically and comprehensively familiarising themselves with the highly complex subject matter of sustainability and ESG with a functional perspective and an interdisciplinary approach;
  • and all those who are curious to learn the practical concepts and definitions in order to be able to make strategic decisions and develop a robust ESG strategy for a company.
