Managing ESG risks in a sustainable and integrated way<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Abbreviations such as\u00a0ESG (Environment, Social, Governance)<\/strong>, CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), SRI (Social Responsibility Investment) or SDG (UN Sustainable Development Goals) now regularly appear in the media and on the agenda of boards of directors and trustees. Companies are under public observation under the heading of \u201csustainability\u201c<\/strong>.\u00a0All sectors and industries<\/strong>\u00a0are equally affected by this. The size of the company is equally irrelevant;\u00a0SMEs<\/strong>\u00a0and medium-sized companies<\/strong>, as suppliers and as an important part of extended supply chains, need to show where they stand on ESG. Furthermore, this development is accompanied by\u00a0litigation<\/strong>. We can already see governments being sued, as well as the energy and extractive industries and the financial sector.<\/p>\n

For\u00a0comprehensive<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0integrated<\/strong>\u00a0management of ESG risks, it is important that everyone in the company understands each other and works together. On the one hand, this is true for the so-called control and \u201cassurance\u201d functions in the \u201csecond and third lines of defence\u201c<\/strong>, which include functions such as\u00a0risk management<\/strong>,\u00a0compliance<\/strong>,\u00a0legal<\/strong>,\u00a0security<\/strong>,\u00a0quality control<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0internal audits<\/strong>. On the other hand, important support functions <\/strong>such as finance, controlling, human resources, communication <\/strong>and marketing <\/strong>are also relevant for the correct positioning of these issues in the company. Not only are they increasingly involved laterally in the\u00a0business<\/strong> but, in particular, they must support the\u00a0management<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0board of directors\/executive committee<\/strong>\u00a0to optimally manage ESG risks. External\u00a0chartered accountants\/auditors<\/strong>,\u00a0lawyers<\/strong> and other\u00a0advisors<\/strong>\u00a0must offer their services accordingly to actively support companies in their efforts to attain their ESG goals. They all need to pursue an integrative approach to ensure comprehensive ESG reporting at all levels of governance.<\/p>\n

Each five-day programme<\/strong> provides a\u00a0practical approach<\/strong>\u00a0to the subject. One of the goals is to create a detailed understanding of what ESG risks are and how control and other support functions can better cooperate to successfully address these challenges together for the benefit of the entire company. Another learning objective of the programme is to understand how to\u00a0identify and mitigate ESG risks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
